I grew up in an old southern French port city- Mobile, Alabama, but I always dreamed of adventure. I can’t remember the exact moment I dreamt of the big stages but I remember the potions made from garden flowers and glittery shower gel. Everything became part of my little game. The adventure I yearned for as a girl I found in women from the past, whose histories continue to inspire me.
Through Mary, Queen of Scots I found myself becoming a bit of a historian. Learning about Scotland turned into Renaissance and Early Modern European history. I jumped into the inner lives of other people through performance and studying history. Shakespeare became a perfect artistic expression of finding commonality in the contemporary and historical. This coming fall I am stoked to be studying Shakespeare with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London (a dream come true for little Abigail!).
When in New York at NYU Tisch, I studied under The Atlantic Theatre School and Playwrights Horizons Theatre School. Even in contemporary work and film, I find the same adventure and curiosity in my acting that I did when making potions with sugary, glittery gels or exploring the past.
I am a tempest in a tea cup.
